These true finches are small to medium-sized passerine (commonly referred to as perching birds or song birds). Finches have stout conical bills adapted for eating seeds and nuts and often have colourful plumage. The finch family contains more than two hundred species. It includes species known as siskins, canaries, redpolls, serins, grosbeaks and euphonias. Ten species have been reported in Niagara, 14 in Ontario
