What started out as a visit to the Toronto RV show and brewery visits, ended up including a birding excursion. There was a rare bird reported at Tommy Thompson Park (Leslie Spit). Thought we would give it a try, since we were going to be in Toronto anyway.
Having
A beautiful, colorful waterbird of marshes whose natural habitat is Florida, Central America, and the Caribbean. single birds sometimes stray far to the north.
Bright bluish-purple body with green back, white undertail, and red bill with yellow tip. Long yellow legs and enormous feet help it walk on lily pads. Usually found alone. This bird is a juvenile, so the brownish colour is far less attractive than the purple. However, it is a neat bird!
This is an extremely rare event for the Toronto area, and Ontario. The last sighting in Toronto was 2016. In Niagara, the only sighting was in 2011. Typically, there are one or two sightings per year in Ontario.
We visited 5 breweries (Black Lab, Henderson, Lost Craft/ High Park, Mascot and Great Lakes breweries) between Friday & Saturday. We have now visited 292 breweries. BTW we will keeping our trailer, no new one even though there a few that caught our eye.
